Hardcover copy in gilt-lettered brown cloth with small name stamp of John C. Robinson, Maj. General U. S. Army, Retired. Barely readable note in pencil on dark-brown front free endpaper thus: "Maj. Gen. Robinson/from the Author/May 20, 1876 [? ] . " Born in Binghamton, New York, General Robinson commanded Union troops during the Civil War and has a brief mention in Chauncey's book. Hinges sound; pages tight, unmarked but for foxing. Light to moderate wear to brown cloth covers with bit of fraying at spine ends. Top edges gilt. No DJ. ;
